“Open meeting” in Shenzhen (China) - 20th November 2009

On the occasion of the 14th ACUUS International Conference that took place in Shenzhen (China) on 18-19 November 2009, the ITACUS Committee has organized an “Open meeting” on Friday 20th November 2009.

This meeting, attended by around 20 participants, was dedicated to a discussion on the following topic: "Underground Space Planning Worldwide".

 
Four contributions were presented, followed by a general and fruitful discussion on the topic. A lot of interesting inputs have been collected, which will be taken into account for the preparation of the White paper # 2. This document will be presented during the ITA WTC 2010 in Vancouver.
  



ITACUS first Open Meeting in Budapest

ITACUS has successfully held its first Open Meeting during the ITA 2009 World Tunnelling and Underground Space Congress in Budapest, Hungary.
 

Thirty people attended the meeting at which presentations were given and a discussion was held on the planning of Underground Space. The president of the French National Committee on Underground Space of AFTES, Ms Monique Labbé gave a presentation on developments in France. ITACUS Steering Board member Mr Ilkka Vähäaho also gave a presentation on the dilemmas facing planners when developing a master plan for Underground Space. In particular he discussed the master plan made for the City of Helsinki. The vice-chairman and the secretary-general of ITACUS also gave presentations.

During the meeting ITACUS also presented its first White Paper titled: Underground Space: Q&A.

This White Paper is aimed at politicians and decision makers and aims to raise awareness on the use of underground space. The document can be obtained in printed from through the ITA secretariat or can be downloaded.
